The Trial of Socrates: A Philosophical and Legal Look at the Death Penalty
Abstract
This article discusses the trial of Socrates as narrated by Plato in his work Apology of Socrates. It explores philosophical and legal aspects of the process. It reconstructs and discusses the defense strategy and arguments used by Socrates. It explores the possible reasons for a conviction that seems certain even in the face of the weakness of the prosecution and the strength of the defense. Finally, it reflects on the consequences of a sentence that cannot be reversed.
